Due to specific activity of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine the issues concerning the personnel selection to SZRU are of grate importance. Recruiting is a complex procedure related with search, analysis, and selection of candidates, who can execute assigned tasks effectively. The SZRU Human Resources Department is responsible for selection procedures.

The selection and enrolment procedures are carried out on a competitive, voluntary and contractual basis.

The candidate should meet different and rather serious demands relating to the post he/she is going to be appointed to. The candidate should be a Ukrainian citizen aged between 22 and 35, with appropriate education, exceptional personal and intellectual capabilities, high business, and moral values. The special attention is paid to the candidate’s degree level fluency in chosen language or ability to study foreign languages, interpersonal skills, readiness for self-improvement, as well as to working capabilities etc.

The candidate should pass an extensive security clearance process and medical examination to clarify his/her fitness for service. Special military and medical committee executes examination.

The intellectual and psychological standards, mental ability, sociability and other professional skills of the candidate are also under testing circumstances.

To obtain access both to the information of State secret and the confidential one the candidate should meet the security criteria. The enrolled to the SZRU should make a written statement and takes responsibility not to disclose secret information protected by the Law of Ukraine and data he/she becomes aware during his/her service at the SZRU.

As a rule the investigation of the candidate lasts a year. The officer from the Human Resources Department informs the candidate about final results of it.

The candidate’s investigation is carried out with observance of all laws of Ukraine and accounting personal interests of individual. Data obtained during investigation are strictly confidential and can not be released to a third party or organizations. The candidate should be aware that in the case of denial to be enrolled this information can not be used for discrimination or influence his further career. Only some candidates can successfully pass all these procedures to become officers of the SZRU.
