This year Ukrainian Foreign Intelligence became an independent state-supported agency – SZRU Chairman
The head of the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine lieutenant-general Mykola Malomuzh considers that this year was extraordinarily important for Ukrainian Foreign Intelligence to become an independent state-supported agency. He pointed it out in his comment for UNIAN.

As M. Malomuzh said, it included the solution of a number of legal, economic and organizational problems both on national and departmental levels. Passed by the Verhovna Rada of Ukraine on December, 1 the Law „On the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine” and later the Law „On the amendments to some legislative acts of Ukraine (concerning intelligence agencies of Ukraine)” were named by M. Malomuzh among the turning-points and the key principal events. (On December, 27 the President of Ukraine signed the Law of Ukraine „On the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine” – UNIAN.)

M. Malomuzh believes that gaining the status of independent state-supported agency and separating the SZRU from the law enforcement institution is one of steps towards reforming the structure of security agencies of Ukraine in accordance with the principles of the democratic legal state.

As the SZRU Chairman said, it`s of great importance today to make impossible the use of foreign intelligence for the purposes not corresponding to Ukrainian laws and to create necessary conditions for effective democratic control over its activity. Besides, the efforts are aimed at the necessity of SZRU structure and activity adaptation to new conditions created in the context of state policy aimed at gradual integration to European and Euroatlantic community, and enhancing the partnership in the sphere of regional and global security with its neighbors and other countries.

M. Malomuzh has noticed in this connection, that the Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine has established official contacts and maintains partnership relations with more than one hundred special services of other countries as well as with NATO Office of Security; it participates in cooperative activity in the spheres of combating terrorism, organized crime, illegal migration, drug and human trafficking. Thus the key priority for the Foreign Intelligence Service was and remains to provide national interests of Ukraine, stressed the head of the SZRU lieutenant-general M. Malomuzh.
